In winter, especially, plan your route and always carry chains if you don't have 4-wheel drive.
"Front Road to Big Bear Lake:" Take Interstate 10 (San Bernardino FWY) to San Berdardino, take State Route ("SR") SR 30 to "Mountain Resorts". This turn off to the road that goes up SR 330. At Running Springs (elev. 6000) merge with SR 18 and continue toward Big Bear Lake. There are plans to close this road for tree removal during the day starting in November, but not certain yet about the time.
